My name is Brian Lawrence, and I'm an opsimath. I was about 58 years of age when I discovered computers could be interesting, and it took only another two years to find out Linux was more interesting than Windows. Slackware 10.0 or 10.1 (the last release to include Gnome) was the first Linux distro I installed. I tried others, but kept going back to Slack. I live in the north-west of England. Left school (a Secondary Modern, now an extinct species) at age 15, without any qualifications and have not gained any since. Ruined an apprenticeship by too much messing about and spent the rest of my working life in various semi-skilled engineering jobs. Now retired. Became a voracious reader from the age of 16, non-fiction on any subject that interested me, as well as fiction. I believe that that will serve me well in my position as editor.
