Hari, this is an excellent synopsis. I could only find one minor thing that I would like to suggest that you change. In the first paragraph of the Community section you use the terms "well knit". I believe you may be meaning to use the common English [[http://www.thefreedictionary.com/idiom|idiom]] "tightly knit", meaning a closely and firmly integrated group or thing.

Nice article, Harishankar. One minor suggestion. Quote: "(...) scripts for **many commonly used software** that are not part of the official distribution (...)". I suggest: "(...) scripts for **many commonly used applications and libraries** that are not part of the official distribution (...)".
